An Education

Before my sister left (sniffle) we went to a Precious / An Education double feature. I can't say much about Precious that hasn't been said--I liked it. I thought it was raw in a way that a lot of stories dealing with abuse dance around and that yeah, Mo'Nique was good.

Anyway, I was a bit let down by An Education. I know most people really dug the movie, but somehow I didn't too much. I guess the whole "moral of the story" was sort of the "education" Jenny got from her experiences as well as the value of real higher education. As a graduate of a good university working in retail, I kind of resented that sentiment (ha ha). Nowadays, I prefer quarter-life crisis stories like Take Care of my Cat to coming of age stories, I guess.

However, I did find this article from The Guardian about the actual "Jenny" the film is based on to be fascinating
