yadda yadda health care

two cents about the health care bill:  i feel a small sense of relief.  after graduation, i no longer was covered by my mother's health care plan. i lagged on applying for an individual plan. i was lucky enough that my mother was willing to pay almost $200 a month for it. however, i finally got off my ass and did it...ONLY TO BE REJECTED :/ ...for a couple of pretty shitty reasons, i'd say. one of which is basically because i was prescribed anti-depressants when i was a teenager. i never even took them (whether or not that is a good thing is something else entirely, i guess).  other than being a light smoker and having eczema, i am a pretty healthy person.  the only doctor visits i've had in years were with my dermatologist/allergist or something related (and at my parents' insistence, at that)  the whole thing left me feeling afraid and kind of pissed off. i wasn't too worried about my health, but after being rejected i just felt shitty and kept wondering...what if??? i spent a couple of days pouting and thinking to myself that this kind of crappy world isn't the kind of world i want to live in.  now, i think i can be put back on my mother's health insurance.  i hope.

  1. thanks to your friendly neighborhood congressman, you too, can now enjoy unprecendented health care coverage that can never be denied to you (it'll still cost ya though)

and I think under these new laws, you can stay under your parents' plan till your 26

  2. Child coverage extended to 26 yrs goes into effect in 6 months. By then I'll have 3 months and 23 days of coverage under my parents. Whoopee. Let me guess, you got rejected because of pre-existing conditions? That's me too cuz of asthma. Didn't get rejected cuz I didn't try, save a short-term health insurance that I didn't use. But I was pretty much in the same worry-fear boat as you. The HC bill seems like land-ho, but I hope it's not a deserted island.

  3. I'm interested to see how much this bill improves things... Health insurance companies, in my opinion, comprise one of the most corrupt institutions in the United States.

  5. I have never felt so lucky to have coverage. I hope it works out for everyone. God knows we needed a change.

  6. Katrina,

I smoke and I haven't got sick in 4 or 5 years so when I went off my parents coverage I just said "fuck it" and I'll save my money. One night a year and a half ago I couldn't breath... it just got progressively worse and I got to the emergency room as fast as I could. I was in there for about an our and they did what they had to do to get oxygen into me.

    1 hour cost me $3000

I'm extremely happy for the change. I don't really go to the doctor unless I have to and I have no problem with money I make going to people I've never met.

To play a religious card here, I love how a lot of Republicans and conservatives who follow the bible are against a bill that will require them to help another human being.
