Faye Wong for the masses

Faye Wong has become one of my latest musical obsessions.  I'm not sure why I didn't get into her music sooner--but better late than never.  She is just one of the most beautiful, talented singers coming out of Asia today; my idol ♥

I stopped by my library and checked out a ton (like, 50+) of CDs in various languages...working my way through them now.  Discovering a ton of really interesting stuff.  It's nice that my library has a lot more world music now than when I was a kid.

Anyhow, if I had to describe Faye Wong in a word it would be "atmospheric." Her songs, videos, and live performances seem to create worlds.  How can I keep this to myself?!  I have to share my love for this woman with the whole interweb.

I really wanted to post some mp3s, but I can't remember my password and it will be a while until my host (the excellent ARIZ) will be able to rest it for me.  If there is interest, I can upload some songs later.  I hope somebody (anybody) reads this and enjoys some Faye Wong music, because I went through a lot of her huge discography and have discovered some of her best work.  Forget the godawful song "Eyes on me" from Final Fantasy VII.

Oh, btw, I did upload one song to megaupload...if you only download one thing on the internet today (for sample purposes only), download this:

I couldn't find a video of this on youtube as it isn't really one of her hits, but is probably my favorite Faye Wong song.  It's beautiful and almost operatic (actually, a lot of her music is).

Faye Wong - You are Happy (So I am Happy)

A pretty, quiet song that sounds almost Hawaiian influenced.

Faye Wong - Dream Person

I think this song is one of her more popular ones in the West--her cover of "Dreams" by The Cranberries, featured in the Wang Kar Wai's Chunking Express.  This is a great clip from the film.

Faye Wong - Cold War

A cover of Tori Amo's "Silent All These Years."  Already a great song--I love the tension created by the piano.  Faye's voice seems to release the tension.  Love this cover.

Faye Wong - Know Yourself

A cover of the Cocteau Twins's "Know Yourself at Every Age."  This song songs even more beautiful in Cantonese.

Faye Wong - Wings of Light

This song is a bit different from the others because it's a rock song.  This is a cool video of a live performance.
