I used to volunteer during elections, running the polls. In California (not sure about other states), I would, sadly, never recommend doing it. Why did I volunteer so many times (five or so)? A sense of civic duty, or something. BUT, you work for something like twelve hours and you get a thank-you stipend of about $100. The money isn't so important in volunteer situations like this, but the time spent at a voting poll is incredibly inane. The only people who ever volunteer for these things (besides me) are old people. I have nothing against old people....but I do kind of have something against people who are so old that they don't know how to use a computer attempting to set up computers so people can vote. In the minds of all the old people I worked with at the polls, I was young and therefore not to be trusted with set up or whatever, but then they would get really confused and not let me help. I watched one lady read the directions "hit power button" and instead of hitting the power button TRY TO PRESS A STICKER UNDER THE BUTTON THAT SAID "ON."
WE ARE DOOMED.
Anyway, while I was volunteering at various elections I'd be crossing people off the voting district registrar and every so often I'd see somebody on the list registered as an American Independent. Who the hell were those people? None of them ever came in. I always thought that was really, really weird. It isn't surprising that crazy neo-conservative bigots exist...just, like, what would they be doing here? I live in the Bay Area, California...one of the most liberal places in the country.
So now I have it all figured out; who the mystery American Independent Party members living in the heart of liberal America really are. They don't exist. They're all just confused old FOBs like my dad who thought "American Independent" = "independent."
hah
PS- If you are reading this, are an American, and you don't know what things like "Super Tuesday" and "American Independent" are.......I will refrain from calling you an idiot, but kindly suggest you hit the library and find a high school government textbook.
*Actually, my father isn't really a Republican. He's one of those old, disillusioned Democrats who left the party and is Republican-curious but at the same time doesn't totally buy into that, either. I myself am an independent...NOT an American Independent, ha ha ha.
