Dear Internet,
I write to you from The Road. I wanted to write about this sooner as it has been in the works for months, but I guess I actually had to get on the road in order to be in the right mentality. This is kind of a a weird situation to explain, so I guess I'll just go right out and say it:
My boyfriend and I are spending ~6-12 months on the road exploring the USA and parts of Canada. We have a tent, supplies/food, and my 1998 Honda Accord.
Wish us luck.
Before anyone asks me how I can afford this...I can't. The money is by and large Nick's. He saved up. It's amazing what you can save when you don't have kids, car payments, etc.
Nick was working in an accounting job he hated. I was working in friggn' retail. I had applied to JET & TFA (teaching programs), thinking that I was a great candidate. Even with a high GPA, work experience, leadership experience, etc etc etc...I didn't get in to these programs. I was really depressed and always questioning my own worth and intelligence.
So I had an idea: why sit around applying for jobs and programs and let hiring managers and comittees decide my fate? Why not take charge of my own life and do something on my own terms. Luckily, Nick agreed that a trip would be a great idea and things grew from there.
We've been planning this for months. I write this at Yosemite (to be posted later), which is beautiful.
My goals for this trip:
1. TRAVEL. I have seen a lot of the USA...and yet I haven't, since the country is damn big. I can't wait to see places great and small.
2. In spite of the previous post...I would like to devote time to writing.
3. Devote time to my music and Nick's music.
Nick's goals are simliar.
Most of blog posts for the next several months will be trip/travel related, but not entirely. Nick says he is going to set up a blog too, I'll post the URL here when he does so!
Anyway, if I haven't yet asked you, I welcome and would be thankful for any advice or words of encouragement...or, if anyone out there wants to meet up even, don't be shy! I'm not...mostly!
