Last night while walking the streets in Seattle a guy stopped us outside of a bar.  He identified himself as a "starving artist" and asked if he could perform a poem for us.  If we liked it, we could throw him a dollar or two.

"It's a love poem," he explained, "Are you two lovers?"  He pointed at Nick and me.

Nick asked how he knew and he explained that we were standing close enough to be Siamese twins.    "But that's OK," he said, "The world needs more Siamese twins. So, at the end of my poem, I'm going to say 'lovers lock eyes' and you two will stand toe to toe and look into each others eyes, OK?"

So he performed his piece which was mostly that incomprehensible slam poetry stuff with inklings of love and overthrowing capitalism.  Then, he said the words "lovers lock eyes" and I kept thinking he was going to try to steal my purse while we were distracted...but all he did was recite more frenzied poetry, telling us we were meant to be together forever..

It was weird and kind of powerful, I felt; some stranger reciting love poems on the street, telling me my love has no limitations.
